Match Play
Match play is a form of play where a player (or players) plays directly against an opponent (or opponents) in a head-to-head match. You win a hole by completing it in the fewest number of strokes, and you win a match when you are winning by more holes than remain to be played. You (or your opponent) may concede a stroke, a hole, or even the match to each other. If your next stroke has been conceded, you are permitted to putt out, unless this will help your partner (for example, by showing them the line for their putt).
We have three different match play formats that will run throughout the season:
Gross Match Play – individual match play with no handicap strokes play will be from the player’s tees.
Net Match Play – individual match play with handicap strokes off the lower player in the match (if a 10 handicap is playing an 18 handicap, the 10 will play to a zero and the 18 will get a stroke on the handicap holes 1-8). Play will be from the gold tees.
Two Man Match Play – Two person teams will play with handicap strokes off the lowest player in the group (if a 10 and a 12 handicap are playing against a 10 and a 14 handicap, the two 10’s will play to a zero. The 12 will get a stroke on handicap holes 1,2 and the 14 will get a stroke on handicap holes 1-4). Play will be from the gold tees.
If a match is not played by the stipulated date, there will be a coin flip to determine the winner. There will be no extensions this year.
