Member Score Posting Guidelines
Role of the Handicap Committee
The purpose of the World Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling golfers of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis. The system provides fair course handicaps for players regardless of ability and adjusts a player’s handicap index up or down as one’s game changes. A basic premise underlies the World Handicap System, namely that every player will try to make the best score at each hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post the score for peer review.
An essential element of the World Handicap System is the requirement that each club must have a Handicap Committee to ensure the integrity of the handicap indexes issued by the club. Our club has an active Handicap Committee. Our purpose is to monitor and supervise the member posting process, as well as oversee tournament results in an ongoing effort to protect the integrity of our Handicap System.
Responsibility of the Golfer
All players must post their scores after playing a qualifying round. A qualifying round is any round, not played alone, but played in accordance to the World Rules of Golf. The only exceptions for not posting are when the Golf Shop posts all scores during tournament play. Please remember that it is YOUR responsibility to ensure your name has been removed from the tee sheet, if for any reason you did not play, or played less than 7 holes.
We ask that everyone please remember the following as you post your scores:
Please post your score each time you play on the day played.
It is a requirement that all members must post qualifying scores, using Equitable Stroke Control.
Remember, if you play alone you cannot post a score.
Always post a 9 hole score, as the GHIN System will combine these scores when available.
If you play at least 14 holes, please be sure to post an 18 hole score using par plus your handicap stroke(s) allocated for all unfinished holes.
Always adjust your score prior to posting using the Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) system.
Please practice “Peer Review” by checking your playing partners for posting accuracy.
Posting Policy
Failure to post will result in the following actions by the Handicap Committee:
First Incident: An email will be sent to advise the member of the missed posting.
Second Incident: A score equal to the lowest of your last 20 scores on record will be posted.
Third Incident: A score of PAR for the course you played will be posted.
Fourth Incident: You will be ineligible to participate in any club tournaments until you post 20 new rounds.
The incident counter will be reset at the beginning of the year.
Handicap Adjustment Reminder
Per the Rules of Golf, the Handicap Committee may:
“Adjust or withdraw the Handicap Index of a player:
· Whose Handicap Index no longer reflects their demonstrated ability.
· Who fails to meet their responsibilities under the Rules of Handicapping.
· Whose actions are determined to be for the purpose of gaining an unfair advantage.
“The player must be informed of any adjustments to, or withdrawal of, their Handicap Index and how long such adjustment or withdrawal will apply.”
