Player’s Championship

It’s mid-March and the first “almost” major is upon us with the Player’s Championship.  Weather has played havoc with the pro’s tournament in Florida.  Our tournament was looking at similar very damp conditions right up until Saturday night when the forecasted rain chance dropped to single digits.  The early holes actually had a bit of sunshine and the rain held off until the last groups were coming in.

This was the first individual tournament of the PMGA season.  Blue tees and stroke play was the format.  The Golf Genius Leaderboard was spinning like a slot machine as the round wore on.

A total purse of $500.00 was available with #1 and #2 Gross and #1-6 Net paying off.

Your Gross Division Champion – Darrell Clayton.  Darrell was two strokes down entering his back nine.  He quickly made up those two stokes and won the division with a birdie on #8.  He was over the back in two and was able to get up and down for a gross 71.

The Net division was a tie between Gary Grembowski and Mark Schaefer.  Both golfers got down early with too many double bogies to start the round.  Both were able to pull it back together to finish with a net 68 for the title.

There was a lot of movement in the Plateau Cup standings.  Bob Thomas remains on top, but things are tightening up.  Russel Williams has been playing very solid and is now just 3 points behind Bob.  Darrell Clayton, Gary Grembowski and Mark Schaefer made big jumps in the standings with their victories.  Next up, Two Man No Scotch.
